Statkraft starts implementation of the second phase of Banja Floating Solar Plant
After restarting of commercial operations in the first unit of Banja Floating Solar Plant in April 2022, Statkraft has started the second phase of the project’s implementation.
Banja Floating Solar Plant in Albania is an innovative R&D project implemented by Statkraft. The project is located at the Banja reservoir in Albania, where Statkraft is operating its 72 MW Banja hydropower plant.
Banja Floating Solar Plant will be comprised of four floating units when finished with a planned total installed capacity of 2 MWp. Each unit is comprised mainly of a plastic ring and a thin floating membrane upon which are installed approx. 1500 solar panels. Each until has an installed capacity of 0.5 MWp.
The first unit of the plant is in operation since April 2022. This unit is generating renewable energy and injecting it in the Albanian national electricity grid. Statkraft has now started the implementation of the second phase of the project with the production, assembly and installation of the remaining 3 units. The implementation of the second phase is planned to be completed within 2022.
The project is implemented by Statkraft Renewables Albania Sh.p.k, a company of the Statkraft group.
